Athletics day
High jump my new favourite event. Friday 9:30 am. I was lining up for the high jump. I could see students dressed up in colours like yellow green blue and red. Soon enough it’s my turn to jump at 95 cm. Luckily I made it clearing the bar by inches. Suddenly , the wind started to pick up, blowing my hair around four a minute or two . One meter the lady said loudly. My turn rolls
Around more quickly than I expected . again I cleared the bar feeling the safety of the mat at my two feet. My heart was racing as I processed what just happened. I can hear the students of Ōtaki college cheering on the runners of the 100 m sprints. I noticed I was starting to get hungry but I didn’t want to eat any of my precious food because there was still a long day ahead. ‘‘ One meter five’’ the lady who was actually called Natasha said.
Person by person the line was getting shorter students failing to get over the bar. There was a big Flop as the girl in front of me landed on the bar, her face shocked and embarrassed. I started running towards the bar my foot knocked it and the bar came tumbling to the ground. An embarrassed feeling flooded through my body. I joined the line that didn’t make it . I watch the students who make it and the students who don't. My second try has come around thankfully I made it and I joined the line that made it again. I was starting to get bored so I started to think what I was going to do that weekend as soon as I started my day dreaming the lady nudged me to say start running. I do as i’m told I clear the bar at one meter ten and one meter fifteen. And then I notice there is only me and this girl called Gina.
We both make the twenty mark and then we move on to one twenty five we have our first try we both knock off the bar of. The bar was hot from the sun glaring and reflecting on to it. Our second try, our time to redeem ourselves
We jump and we both didn't make it. In the end I came 1st equal to that girl Gina my friends wear congratulating me and when I went home that day very tired but very happy, bubbly and excited to tell my family.
